gm-Detection in cotton (-fiber)

Global cultivation of genetically modified cotton

The cultivation of genetically modified cotton has increased enormously. Today more than 20 different modifications are cultivated on nearly 50% of the total cotton cultivation area.

Legal aspects in Europe

There are clear regulations on genetically modified food and feed. Topics like registration, labelling, thresholds or traceability are defined in detail. Comparable guidelines do not yet exist for conventional textile products.

Detection of genetic modifications in cotton

The detection of genetic modifications in cotton fibers and finished products is possible. For this purpose we offer the following tests:

  • Qualitative screening: This analysis will detect all approved genetically modified varieties. A precise so-called event-specific identification of the variety can be run subsequently.
  • Direct quantification:This method will give exact quantitative data, i.e. the total portion of genetic modifications can be determined.

We guarantee a short process time, extensive service and high quality analyses confirmed by our accreditation according to DIN EN 17025.
